Possession of a high school diploma or its equivalent; some college preferred.
Licensed as a Registered Dental Assistant.
Certificate of completion from a recognized two (2) year program/school for Dental Assistants.
At least one (1) year prior work experience as a Registered Dental Assistant.
Example Of Duties
Escorts patients to the dental treatment room.
Seats and drapes patient preparatory to the indicated procedure.
Sets up instruments, materials, and medications.
Cleans and sterilizes dental instruments. Cleans dental chairs, work surfaces, and equipment.
Performs routine maintenance on equipment, i.e., clean automatic developer, lubricate equipment, and clean treatment area.
Checks the dental equipment daily and reports malfunctions on a timely basis.
Chair-side assistance on extra-oral duties or functions specified by the dentist.
Takes impressions for diagnostic and opposing models. Pours study models.
Applies non-aerosol and non-caustic topical agents.
Placement and removal of rubber dams.
Placement and removal of wedges and matrices.
Coronal polishing.
Application of fluoride varnish..
Application of Pit and Fissure Sealants.
Takes, processes, and mounts x-rays and files in the patient’s chart or takes digital radiographs as delegated
Takes an inventory of daily supply needs. Restocks supplies as needed.
Makes dental appointments and patient reminder call.
Files x-rays, records, and other patient documents.
Pours study models and makes individual trays.
Gives patient home care instructions after oral surgery and/or dental surgical procedures.
Performs receptionist and clerical tasks necessary for the orderly functioning of the business operations of the dental service, including, but not limited to registering and enrolling patients, retrieving and filing charts and other records; preparing and completing charge tickets and patient census reports, and the collection of fees.
Is responsible for performing other assigned duties which are related to the above and which fall within the Registered Dental Assistant classification.
