Basic Function

There are two vacancies available. Incumbents in these positions will be selected for the Youth and Teen Programs.

The positions are regular part-time, overtime and benefit eligible that will work 20-30 hours per week, and a member of the AFSCME Collective Bargaining Unit.

Under the supervision of a Recreation Supervisor, the incumbents will create and implement recreational activities to ensure that they are safe, proper, and appropriate; direct the work of recreation leaders; prepare program facilities for use; provide a variety of clerical and office support duties; provide information and assistance to the general public and drive a 14-seat passenger van.

Representative Duties

  • Create, plan, and implement recreational and educational classes, activities, and community-wide events for appropriate groups, including youth, teens, adults, seniors, special populations, and cultural arts; evaluate the effectiveness of these programs and modify as needed. E
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and communication with department and City staff, school district staff, county, community organizations and the general public. E
  • Transport program participants to and from their program in a safe and efficient manner driving City's fleet including the fourteen (14) passenger van with wheelchair lift. E
  • Provide direction to Recreation Leader 2 and Recreation Leader 1 staff. E
  • Prepare facilities for use; set up tables, chairs, other furniture, and equipment; resituate facilities after use; remove and properly store furniture, equipment, materials and supplies as assigned. E
  • Perform a variety of clerical and office support duties; type and prepare correspondences; maintain files; schedule appointments, meetings, and activities. E
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Required Education And Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of community-based recreation or closely related experience
  • A combination of experience and training that provides the candidate with the knowledge and skills to perform the job will be considered.

Licenses And Other Requirements

  • Valid Washington State driver's license
  • A three-year driving record abstract must be submitted prior to hire.
  • Valid adult and child CPR and First Aid Certificates preferred upon hire. Ability to obtain within thirty (30) days of hire required.
  • Valid food handler's permit preferred upon hire (senior programs only). Ability to obtain within thirty (30) days of hire required.
