Brief Job Description (essential Functions Of The Job)
Under direction, performs work of moderate difficulty assisting the Director of Human Resources, Office of Streets with a wide variety of administrative functions.
Responsibilities
- Composes correspondence.
- Calculates and executes personnel documents such as step raises, official memoranda and reports.
- Uses the PeopleSoft Human Resources program to obtain necessary personnel data.
- Maintains confidential personnel records and files.
- Explains personnel policies and procedures.
- Manages and oversees Managing Attendance program and keeps statistics regarding the same.
- Prepares correspondence and memoranda to be sent to other city and state departments relative to civil service matters.
- Answers the telephone and assists callers requesting verification of employment, personnel information, or connects them to proper employees.
- Files all personnel documents.
- Performs related work as required.
Required to work any emergency as directed by the Chief of Streets or Designee.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications
- Applicants must have at least four (4) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, paid experience in office work or business administration, in work the major duties of which include one or more of the following functions: office management, records management, purchasing or personnel administration.
- Must have the ability to exercise good judgment and be able to focus on detail as required by the job.
- Knowledge of Civil Service laws, Managing Attendance Program, and City of Boston personnel policies and procedures preferred.
- Knowledge of PeopleSoft Human Resources Program preferred.
- Strong computer and organizational skills preferred.
- Appropriate educational substitutions may be made.
