The mission of Jazz at Lincoln Center, Inc., ("JALC") is to entertain, enrich and expand a global community for jazz through performance, education, and advocacy . JALC owns and operates Rose Hall, a 100,000 sq ft. facility on the corner of 60 th St. and Broadway that houses 3 performance spaces: Rose Theater(a 1200+ seat hall), The Appel Room, (400 + seat concert venue) and Dizzy’s Club, a 150 seat jazz club) The facility is the primary venue for the JALC concert season, as well as rehearsals and recording sessions. It is also the host to hundreds of special events that range from large scale corporate events, upfronts, film premieres, Gala fundraisers and award ceremonies.
Position Description
The successful candidate is one of six basic (head) stagehands to facilitate these events in Jazz at Lincoln Center's Frederick P. Rose Hall, including but not limited to: Rose Theater (1200+ seat flexible concert hall/proscenium theater) and The Appel Room (400+ flexible non-fixed seating concert venue, television studio, theater, and special event venue). Frederick P. Rose Hall houses over 500 events annually, between Jazz at Lincoln Center-produced programming and a variety of outside performances and special events. The six basic stagehands are organized into two teams of three, with two individuals focused on Carpentry/Rigging, two on Audio and two on Lighting. Each basic stagehand receives crew calls from JALC’s Production department and staffs the calls to create teams who will then execute the events. The size of the crews will vary based on the needs of the event.
Key Responsibilities
- Staff and manage crews for concert, theatrical, special, and corporate events with Production Management.
- Work with Production Management to advance events as needed.
- Help manage and maintain all theatrical equipment and systems.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise required in all aspects of stagecraft.
- Specialty is required in carpentry and theatrical rigging. Maintenance of existing rigging and automation systems required.
- ETCP Theatre Rigger certification preferred.
- Must have excellent working knowledge of workplace safety policies and practices.
- Ability to responsibly and effectively manage crew.
- Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be willing to work 40+ hours per week, year-round.
- Knowledge of or keen interest in and appreciation of jazz and jazz culture helpful
Hours
Shift work varies, minimum 40 hours per week. Must be available to work day and/or evening shifts, often in long shifts
Compensation
Hourly rates and other compensation based on I.A.T.S.E. Local 1 CBA.
Start Date
This position will be available in September 2025.
