Position Details:
The position supports the NEA’s strategic objective to focus the energy and resources of its 3 million members on promoting public education by providing high-level support in printing, mailing, and other administrative services to NEA offices.
Position Summary: The Print Production Associate is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and quality of printed materials, photos, and artwork in alignment with NEA branding and standards. This role oversees the production lifecycle, ensuring all deliverables meet workflow requirements and job specifications. Key duties include assessing project risks, recommending process improvements, and making timeline adjustments to optimize efficiency. The associate operates and maintains print and finishing equipment, manages production schedules and materials, and enforces strict quality control procedures through meticulous proofing and adherence to guidelines. Collaboration is integral to this role, as the associate works closely with all levels of management, project leads, and various departments to refine production plans and adjust designs to suit organizational needs. In a fast-paced environment, they independently handle production tasks, maintain inventory, oversee supply orders, and manage the packaging and distribution of completed print products. Additionally, the associate applies advanced knowledge of four-color management inks and software to identify and resolve print machine production issues. The role requires operating a motor vehicle for material pick-up and delivery, as well as proficiency in NEA-endorsed software and personal computing tasks. Some travel may be required

Minimum Education Requirement: Associate’s Degree, Skilled Trade Training in a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum Qualifications: Four years of progressively responsible professional experience in print production, including pre and post-production, paper and printing services consultation, and production scheduling; Extensive experience with digital printing and bindery equipment; exposure to purchasing processes within a printing operation. Experience working with graphic design elements in mailing and printing operations.
Other Requirements: Must have a valid state driver’s license. Ability to lift 70 lbs and work in both production and warehouse environments. Skilled in operating heavy equipment, including forklifts and power jacks, in isolated warehouse settings and within the NEA facility. Must be able to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and short-notice overtime. Some travel is required (up to 15 overnights a year).
Selection Criteria: Tier 1 (Essential):
- Demonstrated proficiency in customer service, with hands-on experience in a professional setting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, ensuring clarity and professionalism in all interactions.

- Experience creating printed materials and working with computerized printing/mailing equipment, preferably Xerox and Ricoh systems.
- Skilled in operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining digital printing and bindery equipment.
- Ability to identify and resolve technical issues related to printing and mailing operations.
- Familiarity with personal computers and software for word processing, graphics, and mailing tasks, including: Microsoft Office Suits, Apple/Macintosh platforms, Adobe Creative Suite
- Strong understanding of mail operations, including U.S. Postal Service, UPS, and other major carrier regulations and procedures.
- Highly skilled in recordkeeping and file management, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in production documentation.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines simultaneously, and adapt to evolving project demands.

Tier 2 (Significant):
- Advanced proficiency in the safe operation, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of various printing, mailing, and event support equipment, including Digital imaging tools, Postage meters, Inserters, folders, laminators, and labelers.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues related to printing and mailing operations.
- Basic understanding of computer networks and local area networks (LANs). Foundational PC troubleshooting abilities. Experience developing bids and negotiating contracts with vendors to optimize pricing and service quality.
- Proficiency in online research and purchasing materials, ensuring cost-effective and timely procurement.
- Proven ability to safely operate manual and powered handling equipment, including: Dollies, hand trucks, electric jacks, motor vehicles, and forklifts.
- Strong focus on warehouse safety procedures to ensure a secure and organized working environment.
- Certified training in Printing Systems and Adobe Creative Cloud applications, reinforcing expertise in graphic design integration and print production workflows.
Tier 3 (Desirable):
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Adobe PDF tools, for print production and design support.
