What You’ll Do At OhioMHAS

We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Financial Associate to support our agency’s accounts receivable operations. This role involves managing payment processing, assisting with billing claim follow-up, coordinating collections, and ensuring accurate posting and documentation of revenue. The ideal candidate will be familiar with Epic, OnBase, and OAKS systems, and have experience in healthcare finance or a related field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accounts Receivable & Payment Processing: Open and log all incoming checks and other payment types. Handle credit card and ACH payments securely and accurately. Retrieve and log EFT payments from agency bank accounts. Download and organize payment remittance information from insurance clearinghouses and payer portals. Post payments into the Epic medical billing system, ensuring correct allocation to patient accounts. Manage Epic payment work queues and make appropriate balance adjustments. Upload patient backup documentation into OnBase for recordkeeping. Process deposits in OAKS and generate deposit reports for all revenue-receiving divisions.
  • Collections & Billing Follow-Up: Coordinate collection efforts for delinquent accounts, including bankruptcies and estate filings. Apply applicable financial discounts to patient balances where appropriate. Assist in the resolution of hospital and professional billing claims to secure reimbursement. Communicate and coordinate with external entities such as the Office of Attorney General, social workers, ODJFS, representative payees, and clients to resolve account issues and gather needed documentation.
  • Customer Service & Account Maintenance: Respond to customer inquiries regarding account balances and disputes. Write and submit work orders for correction of billing or payment errors. Perform miscellaneous duties and special projects as assigned by supervisor.

This is an hourly position covered by the OCSEA/AFSCME bargaining unit (union), with a pay range of 28 on the OCSEA Pay Range Schedule. Normal working hours are 1st shift (8:00am to 5:00pm). This position is located within our Office of Financial Management, headquartered at the James Rhodes State Office Tower, 30 East Broad Street, 11th floor, Columbus, Ohio 43215.

Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.

Position Qualifications

18 mos. exp. or 18 mos. trg. in accounting &/or finance to include a basic level of experience in spreadsheet software.

  • Or completion of high school technical program in accounting; 6 mos. exp. or 6 mos. trg. in accounting or finance to include a basic level of experience in spreadsheet software.
  • Or completion of associate core program in business administration, accounting, finance or related field.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
