The Norfolk Fire Department is accepting resumes for the position of firefighter/paramedic. This career position will perform firefighting duties, EMS, inspectional services, and community activities. The anticipated hire date is July/August 2025, and resumes will be collected and retained for 1 year for any future openings. The Norfolk Fire Department has an excellent reputation within and with the surrounding communities.

Candidates must be Massachusetts-licensed paramedics or attain licensure within 6 months of hire. CPR and ACLS are required, with PALS also preferred. Candidates with documented previous 911 paramedic emergency medical service experience are preferred.

Firefighting experience is not required, but is preferred. Candidates with documented full-time experience from a fire department operating an ALS ambulance may be started at a step commensurate with their experience.


The successful candidate will be required:

  •  To pass a background screen performed by the Norfolk Police Department, including a CORI check
  •  Have a valid driver's license and submit to a background check through the RMV
  •  Complete in-house driver training program
  • To pass a Department physical and the State Human Resources physical strength and agility testing (PAT)
  • Successfully complete the Recruit Firefighter Training Program at the
  • Successfully complete the Massachusetts Career Firefighting Academy, if not done so already
  •  Sign and adhere to smoking prohibition regulations
