The Educational Counselor will work in the Aspire Program, working as part of a team to support KSC students. Aspire is integral to academic support on campus and provides academic tutoring, advising, financial aid advising and assistance, financial/economic literacy, personal, career and academic counseling, career services, cultural activities, mentoring, advocacy, Links Summer Bridge, College101/102, grant aid, graduate school exploration and GRE preparation.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Implement Recruit Plan to secure target number of eligible students.
- Conduct needs assessment of individual students and develop academic plans.
- Provide academic counseling, advising and individualized course selection based on students’ strengths, learning styles, academic record of accomplishment specific to content, preferred teaching styles, major requirements and career plans of students; as well as experiential learning opportunities.
- Offer required services including: advising, tutoring, financial literacy, financial aid, study skills, time management, career and graduate school exploration services and student success workshops.
- Facilitate Aspire credit and non-credit programming, including college 101/102, study nights, success lunches, and mentoring initiatives.
- Offer trainings on learning strategies such as textbook reading, exam preparation, reading comprehension, memory strategies, time management and organization, notetaking, and stress management.
- Consult and collaborate with campus academic support units.
- Through targeted services and interventions, build community amongst TRIO students.
- Process tutor requests with new students.
- Educate student about KSC academic support and peer tutoring concept.
- Complete Aspire application, conduct student needs assessment, connect students to resources, and complete electronic tutor request.
- Facilitate Links program residential programming.
- With Associate Director, promote Links program at campus events.
- Execute student recruitment plan.
- Review applicants for Links.
- Accept and enroll applicants including course registration, residential placement and dining plan.
- Coordinate recruitment, orientation, training, and supervision of faculty and student staff.
- Provide case management to students.
- Offer students conflict management and crisis intervention.
- Facilitate learning and social integration.
- Teach College 101.
- Support students retention to fall semester.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Represent TRIO on campus and in community.
- Consult and collaborate with Disability Services, Title IX, Wellness Center, Campus Safety regarding student success.
- Serve as point person for Aspire students in SAP process, CARES, and EAB Navigate.
- Maintain federally mandated documentation including P-card documentation, weekly contact logs, mileage, time and effort, applications etc. as well as other required institutional record keeping.
- Advocate for and with students with campus departments, faculty and staff.
- Coordinate with faculty and staff to promote Aspire program.
- Maintain student, parent and community communication plan including website presence, brochures, tabling, and social media.
- Attend professional development conferences and trainings.
- Create program reports, proposals and publications.
- Collect data and support student files tracking student progress toward program objectives.
- Create and maintain program files.
- Conduct both formative and summative programmatic assessments.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Education, Counseling, or related field, or matriculation in a graduate program
- A minimum of two years of experience serving this population required
- Proven commitment to the needs of disadvantaged students with proven ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written means
- Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, supervisory and project management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff
- Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Student Access, Qualtrics, WEBI, Colleague, Student Planning, EAB/SSC and ability to prepare reports.
- Must be available extended hours in the summer, and some nights and weekends.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of two years’ experience in academic or student affairs at a postsecondary educational institution.
- Previous experience as a participant or staff member for a TRIO program is preferred.
- Experience promoting activities and programs with social media
- Experience facilitating classroom or residential hall presentations meant to build students’ academic skills
- Advising experience
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively
- Willingness to engage with colleagues on campus and through professional development opportunities to develop innovative and effective solutions to complex problems.
