Overview

Under general Supervision, the Field Reports Coder/Analyst processes incident and arrest reports for the Field Reports Unit of the Licensing Division.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for reviewing and submitting National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) data for the BPD, complying with State and Federal requirements.
  • Review, analyze, and classify incident and arrest reports based on the nature of the incident and NIBRS codes.
  • Collect and report data on all offenses and arrests with each of the crimes /offenses (Group A and B). Collect administrative, offense, property, victim, offender, and arrestee information.
  • Data entry: Approve and verify reports that are filed within the City of Boston.
  • It is required for Field Reports to also enter in data such as names of victims, suspects, address, dates, names, injuries, linking property, and linking arrests. As well as verify, cross reference, and enter in data regarding property stolen or damaged.
  • Identify problems and discrepancies and ensure the appropriate corrections are made to incident and arrest reports.
  • Must validate and approve every report; process supplemental reports. Ability to exercise sound judgment and handle confidential information; Ability to maintain accurate records, including databases and electronic files; Act as point of contact for their assigned District Commanders regarding NIBRS reporting; make recommendations to district commanders based on the data collected from Incident reports; must meet deadlines.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications

  • Applicants must have a minimum of two (2) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in research or statistical work involving the collection, clarification, and or compilation of research data for statistical reports.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. An undergraduate degree may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • It is strongly preferred that the applicants possess strong reading comprehension and typing skills, as well as the ability to learn specialized software.
  • Must be detail-oriented and consistently follow established processes and procedures.
  • Must be a team player with a flexible attitude toward work assignments and changing priorities.
  • Possess strong people interaction skills, including excellent customer service, telephone skills, and oral and written communication skills.

Criminal Record Check Required.

A PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG TEST IS REQUIRED.
