About The Position

In collaboration with other members of the stage crew and production staff, the Head Electrician is responsible for maintenance and installation of all productions in the Bagley Wright Theater, dealing primarily with electrical work. The Head Electrician may also provide additional support to the other positions on the stage crew in the Bagley Wright and Leo Kreielsheimer Theaters, and the PONCHO Forum.

Typical Duties Include

Participate in Show Changeovers

  • Prepare and plan show lighting installs in conjunction with the Seattle Rep Lighting Department
  • Manage the use of the theatrical lighting and electrical systems as it applies to all productions on the Bagley Wright Stage
  • Supervise the hang and installation of all light plots for the Bagley Wright Stage.
  • Advise and assist in the installation of set electrics, lighting infrastructure and positions as needed.
  • Lead focus and electrics calls on the Bagley Wright Stage
  • Maintain a respectful and professional working relationship with overhire technicians.
  • Support the other Stage Departments in their install and strike processes as required

Lead the maintenance of and advise in the expansion of the lighting inventory and stage electrics in the Bagley Wright Theater

  • Maintain and repair lighting equipment on a regular basis and as necessary.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment in all theatrical spaces.
  • Maintain and manage storage of the Bagley Wright lighting inventory.
  • Keep up to date on current technologies and best practices as related to the position of Head Electrician.

Tech and Run shows as a member of the stage crew

  • Act as lead programmer for most shows on the Bagley Wright stage.
  • Program conventional and multi parameter fixtures with an ETC EOS Family console.
  • Operate the light board for staged rehearsals and performances.
  • Execute physical work/focus notes that come up throughout the tech and run process.
  • Act in other capacities on stage crew as time allows and shows require.

Serve as an essential contributor to Seattle Rep’s culture and success

  • Add constructively to the collaborative and collegial health of the organization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Commitment to cultivating an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace via decisive action including consistently seeking out opportunities for self and community improvement in the areas of racial equity, accessibility, gender inclusivity, and cultural sensitivity.
  • 5 years of experience working as a stage electrician on a professional level
  • Advanced knowledge of stage electrical, lighting and network systems including current technologies with a special emphasis on ETC lighting systems
  • Advanced programming experience for the ETC Eos Family of consoles
  • Moderate moving light programming experience
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • A demonstrated ability to work effectively as a leader, independently, and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate lighting and theatrical equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Ability to work comfortably at heights in personnel lifts, on ladders, in bosuns chairs, or harnesses.

Desired Qualifications

  • Collegiate or other specialized training in theatrical and entertainment lighting and electrics
  • Advanced moving light programming experience
  • Working knowledge of audio, video, rigging, and automation systems
