As the Production Manager (PM), you will lead, initiate, and be the point person for all production details from show advance through final execution. You will oversee all aspects of the The Salt Shed production department, including a large roster of hourly, IATSE2, and salaried employees that make up the venue’s robust production team. This position is often the first and last interaction an artists’ team has with The Salt Shed on show day, making it crucial for you to be a natural leader with a positive attitude. A highly organized, expert communicator, negotiator, and technically skilled individual should thrive in this role. Experience working in multi-stage and outdoor festival settings would be beneficial but is not required. The Production Manager primarily oversees the two main stages on the property but should also manage production-related aspects of the various other concepts and events that take place across the property

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage a large department that includes a combination of salaried, hourly, IATSE Local 2 crew working in areas related to show production, private event production, and hospitality. Follow all HR guidance and communicate regularly with that department. Ensure all staff have a clear understanding of their job descriptions and 16OC’s mission statement.
  • Create organizational structure and protocol for all elements of departmental operations, with a priority on smooth and efficient show advances and streamlined communication among key roles and departments within 16OC.
  • Ensure all HR processes are followed for hiring and onboarding of employees. Provide the staff with work schedules well in advance via 7shifts and clearly communicate any changes. Regularly maintain payroll time punch edits to ensure labor reporting is accurate and up to date for accounting purposes.
  • Oversee department budget and work with all members of the team towards fiscal responsibility. Communicate regularly with The Salt Shed management and 16OC finance for timely reporting and discussion of the department’s financial matters.
  • Coordinate production-related purchases via 16OC spend approval process, vet quotes and vendors, and provide detailed explanations of proposed capital expenditures.
  • Supply all necessary expenses and backup while maintaining a good workflow with members of booking and finance teams for swift and accurate nightly artist settlements.
  • Foster and demand a culture of safety throughout all aspects of the production department, including but not limited to weather emergency protocol, general health and safety emergency operations, and OSHA guidelines. Run regular training for all team members and maintain all safety-related certifications.
  • Possess expertise in all areas of technical production, and have the ability to inform others of best practices and standards. Communicate all elements of the technical advance with tours and disseminate that information as needed internally.
  • Coordinate the maintenance and upkeep of all venue technical equipment to the highest standards and forecast all anticipated repairs and replacement.
  • Evaluate and maintain relationships with key vendors.
  • Work in lockstep with the venue management team on all elements of show production. Collaborate on artist VIP, run of show, security, guest list, and more. Display exceptional communication with this team around pertinent show details.
  • Maintain the highest standards of hospitality towards tours and guests. Oversee hospitality and artist-facing teams and ensure top-level hospitality experiences are provided for all guests of The Salt Shed.
  • Interface with production teams from various co-promoters that work in The Salt Shed.
  • Work with Private Events and Community Events teams on all aspects of event production for their rentals and public events.
  • Participate in regular production meetings across all venues of 16OC, sharing best practices, finding opportunities for collaboration, and supporting other production team members in professional development.
  • Communicate regularly with the 16OC Executive Leadership Team around ongoing projects, trends, successes, and needs of the production department.

Skills

  • 10+ years of experience in tour, venue, or festival settings with 6+ years of management experience
  • Day and night availability, the ability to work an average of 40 hrs/week, the ability to lift 50+ lbs, and work in all seasons
  • Attention to detail & patience with a passion for hospitality
  • Strong advocate and ally for inclusion, respect, diversity, and equity
  • A drive to bring fresh ideas to the table and always be striving for higher standards
  • Creative eye for design, hosting, and entertaining
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively within a strict production and tour timetable.
  • Ability to maintain composure and total professionalism around touring personnel
  • Self-starter with the ideas and ability to create new systems and procedures
  • Expert use of Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar, and Prism
  • Connected and able to juggle staying on top of quickly changing needs with poise

Essential Physical Functions

  • Must have the ability/stamina to work a minimum of 40 hours a week.
  • Ability to stand/walk for up to 5-6 hours per day.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Will frequently reach, feel, bend, stoop, carry, finely manipulate and key in data.
  • Must be able to work in both warm and cool environments, indoors and outdoors.
  • Must be able to tolerate higher levels of noise from music and customer traffic.
