TITLE: Electrophysiology Technologist (EP Tech)

JOB OVERVIEW: The Electrophysiology Technologist (EP Tech) will assist cardiovascular providers in scrubbing and monitoring electrophysiology procedures including pacemakers, defibrillators, and endocardial ablation of various arrhythmias. The position will work under the direction of the EP Clinical Coordinator and closely with the Registered Nurses in the department.

AREA OF ASSIGNMENT: Radiology Services, Angio Labs, and SPCU

HOURS OF WORK: Variable Weekdays (No Weekends, No Call)

RESPONSIBLE TO: Manager

Prerequisites:

WA. State Registered Radiologic Technologist, Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) required.

If not RCES, must be acquired within twelve (12) months of hire.

Two years of recent EP Lab experience.

Proficiency in both scrubbing and monitoring/recording EP procedures.

Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.

UNIQUE PHYSICAL / MENTAL DEMANDS, ENVIRONMENT, AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Requires working as part of a team at the direction of the Director or Manager, lead, physicians to ensure efficient operation of the special imaging department. Requires handling, lifting and transferring patients and equipment, standing, sitting, walking swiftly, reaching overhead, pulling, and bending. Requires wearing lead aprons weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis. Requires the ability to effectively communicate with other staff, physicians, and patients. Requires working under changing conditions depending on the schedules of the department. Includes the potential for exposure to body fluids and other conditions common to hospitals. Requires transporting patients via wheelchair, stretcher, and bed throughout the facility. Requires skills in answering the phone, PACS image transfer procedure, RIS, and some word processing/writing skills.

Essential Responsibilities And Competencies

Operates electrophysiology specialty equipment including but not limited to 3D mapping systems,

stimulation systems, intracardiac echocardiography, EP monitoring/recording system and cardiac device programmers.

Serves as a role model and expert resource for both internal and external customers regarding standards of care for electrophysiology procedures.

Demonstrates expertise in trouble shooting EP specialty equipment used during procedures.

Demonstrates expertise in the use of radiological equipment & safety and shielding techniques.

Implements safe, competent and efficient care to patients within hospital and departmental policies, procedures and standards across a variety of populations and complexity of situations.

Systematically and continuously collects, assesses and documents data in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to provide procedural care.

Assures that informed patient consent has been obtained and that all questions and concerns have been answered to the patient's satisfaction. Ensures Universal Protocol standards are followed and met for all invasive procedures.

Maintain daily safety checklists for various equipment (crash cart/defibrillator, etc.)

Document equipment problems in service logs and initiate service calls.

Transports patients as necessary utilizing appropriate safety resources.

Other related duties as assigned.
