DEPARTMENT: PUBLIC WORKS
LOCATION: 3505 DRIES LANE, PEORIA, ILLINOIS
HOURS: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. – Monday through Friday
The purpose of this position is to maintain and repair existing building mechanical systems. This is accomplished by setting up programming and occupancy schedules of the buildings; assisting on new system designs; and maintaining equipment. Other duties include providing on call services for building emergencies.
YOU ARE REQUIRED TO ESTABLISH RESIDENCY WITHIN PEORIA CITY LIMITS WITHIN ONE YEAR OF EMPLOYMENT. HOWEVER, IF YOU CHOOSE TO WAIVE THAT REQUIREMENT, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN A TWENTY (20) MILE RADIUS OF CITY HALL AND GIVE UP 2% OF YOUR BASE PAY FOR FIVE (5) YEARS.
Examples of Duties
Performs HVAC maintenance and repair by setting up and executing regular schedules and performing regular preventive maintenance on all HVAC systems.
Performs general maintenance and repair by cleaning, replacing, and maintaining ice machines, plumbing systems, vehicle exhaust systems, and miscellaneous building equipment.
Programs and updates software for DDC controls by maintaining logs of used chemicals and lab analysis; assisting in inspection of boilers and pressure vessels; creating work orders; and installing new boilers, mini split units, heat pumps and other HVAC related systems.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree or equivalent from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school; must have UA CFC qualification- Universal, BTJ Steamfitter, and CFC Universal License; over four years up to and including six years experience. Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job considered. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Supplemental Information
Work requires advanced skills and knowledge in approaches and systems, which affect the design and implementation of major programs and/or processed organization wide. Independent judgment and decision-making abilities are necessary to apply technical skills effectively. Knowledge of DDC Systems, Trane Tracer SC, Trane Summit and Automated Logic and interfacing with all equipment types through BACnet. Skill in Trane, York rooftops and chillers, AON system controls, Liebert computer room units, Carrier rooftop units. All residential HVAC equipment, Geothermal systems, and Raypak boilers.
PENSION PROGRAM: Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF): Ten years required for vesting. IMRF Death Benefit – Annual Salary after 1 year's service. IMRF Disability Benefit – 50% of Salary up to 30 months after 1 year's service.

VACATION: No Vacation in first year of employment. Earn 6.67 hours per month. (If employee begins service prior to 15th of the month, they will be given vacation credit for the full month)

SICK LEAVE: Shall accrue sick leave on a basis of 6.67 hours per month. No limit on total days accumulated.
PERSONAL LEAVE: In the first calendar year of employment, no credits will be granted. On January 1st of the first, second, third and fourth full year of employment, the employee will be granted 32 hours of personal time for use in the year. Each year beginning with the fifth full year of service, employees will be granted 40 hours of personal time for use during the year. Personal time, if not used in the year granted, will be lost.
HOLIDAYS: 10 Paid Holidays per year.
MEDICAL/DENTAL INSURANCE: Coverage effective first day of the next month following completion of one calendar month of employment. Members may opt out of the City's insurance program with proof of other coverage – coverage for dependents is optional. The City of Peoria Health Insurance offers two (2) plan options for coverage. Bi-weekly premiums for employees depend on which plan is selected. On your hire date, you will meet with City's Patient Advocate to receive detailed information on the plans and the appropriate premium cost. Depending on plan selection, you can enroll in the Flexible Spending Program (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA).

RESIDENCY: You are required to establish residency within Peoria city limits within one year of employment. However, if you choose to waive that requirement, you must live within a twenty (20) mile radius of City Hall and give up 2% of your base pay for five (5) years. You will need to complete a Waiver of Residency form in the Human Resources Department.
